Gas Insulated Substation

The generated electricity is then routed to the 400 kV Electrical Switching Substation via the Generator Step up Transformer. This Substation contains Gas Insulted Switchgear (GIS). Gas-insulated high-voltage switchgear (GIS) is a compact metal encapsulated switchgear consisting of high-voltage components such as circuit-breakers and disconnectors, which can be safely operated in confined spaces. From there the electricity is exported to the National Grid (UK).
